About Our Lead Advocate & The Direction of Advocacy
The Arc of Smith County is dedicated to advocating for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. Led by Executive Director Robert Ogden, the organization leverages his extensive background in education, which includes years of experience as a teacher working with students with low-incidence disabilities. Robert has a strong track record of creating and implementing specialized programs for nonverbal students with significant adaptive behavior challenges, helping them find success in both self-contained and general education classrooms.
In addition to his teaching experience, Robert has served as both a special education and building administrator in public education, where he worked to create inclusive environments that support all students, regardless of ability. In 2020, Robert founded an educational consulting and parent advocacy firm, through which he provided personalized support to families navigating the complexities of special education. Robert is pro-student, pro-parent, and pro-educator. He believes in a team approach, fostering strong relationships between parents and schools.
Since January, Robert has brought his expertise and passion to The Arc of Smith County, where the focus is on directly supporting parents. The Arc of Smith County works closely with families, preparing them for important planning meetings and advocating alongside them to ensure their children receive the best possible support. In most cases, The Arc of Smith County provides direct advocacy at meetings.
The Arc of Smith County’s goal is to effectively support parents across Northeast Texas and beyond. To achieve this, the organization is working to build a network of advocates throughout the region, collaborating to empower parents in the special education process and improve outcomes for children with IDD.
Every family’s situation is unique, and The Arc of Smith County’s advocacy services are tailored to meet each family’s specific needs. We encourage you to reach out with any questions regarding your specific needs.
